“When I started this project, I had never used ALGOR software. I found InCAD to be easy to use and learn. To get started, I used the InCAD/Solid Edge tutorial provided with the software and a few of the free online Webcasts, all of which were very helpful.”

David Valletta

Queen’s University

The solar car Mirage was designed and built by the Queen’s University Solar Vehicle Team. ALGOR software was used to optimize the wheel design for weight reduction while maintaining structural performance.

“We learned that ALGOR granted software to the University of Arizona solar car team and that the analysis tools work directly with Rhino and SolidWorks CAD geometry. We’ll use the FEA and MES software to analyze designs for the chassis and suspension components of our new car.”
     Pete Augenbergs
     Massachusetts Institute of Technology

“Our Solar Race Car Team likes the ALGOR user interface and the software's compatibility with popular CAD programs. These features have allowed relatively inexperienced students to create complicated FEA models and turn out some outstanding work.”

Jason Douglas

University of Arizona

The University of Arizona used ALGOR software to analyze a number of parts of their solar car, Monsoon, including the chassis, rollcage and suspension components.

Solar Car Competition Grant Recipient:

As a sponsor of various solar car competitions, ALGOR provides finite element analysis (FEA) and Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) software grants to participating organizations. MES combines large-scale motion and stress analysis and includes linear and nonlinear material models. Through these grants, participants can design their entries with the same software used by over 20,000 customers worldwide.

We are always pleased to consider supporting participants in these and other competitions. If you are interested in receiving a software grant, please contact us for more information.

Benefits and Support

Software Features

  • FEMPRO, a complete and easy-to-use finite element modeling, results evaluation and presentation interface that features docking toolbars, multiple view windows, a tree view of model parts and associated data, Windows-native data input screens with real-time data checking for reasonable input and right-click functionality for applying, modifying and deleting loads, constraints and FEA properties
  • InCAD technology for direct CAD/CAE data exchange with Alibre Design, Autodesk Inventor, Inovate, IronCAD, KeyCreator, Mechanical Desktop, Pro/ENGINEER, Rhinoceros, Solid Edge and SolidWorks; full associativity for each design change with most CAD solid modelers; support for CAD universal files including 3-D solid models in the ACIS, IGES, STEP and STL file formats, and 2- and 3-D wireframe geometry
  • built-in precision FEA model-building capabilities with structured meshing tools for building designs from scratch and refining CAD designs
  • a wide range of simulation capabilities includes static stress and Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) with linear and nonlinear material models, linear dynamics, fatigue, steady-state and transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow, electrostatics, full multiphysics and piping
  • internationalized language support allowing easy selection of the language of choice, including Chinese (simplified), English, French, German, Italian and Spanish

About Solar Car Competitions

ALGOR has sponsored teams competing in the American Solar Challenge, the World Solar Challenge and others. These competitions are educational sporting events in which university teams, companies and clubs from around the world compete to build and race solar-powered cars.

The American Solar Challenge is an international cross-country competition that starts in the Great Plains and finishes in the Southern California desert. The World Solar Challenge vehicles race across the Australian desert from Darwin to Adelaide.
