Market
ALGOR, Inc. makes computer software and provides services for industries such as
automotive, aerospace, medical, consumer products, military, electric power, petroleum, large structures, MEMS and more.
Products
ALGOR’s product line includes design, analysis and simulation tools that allow users to virtually test and predict
real-world behavior of new and existing product designs. These tests help speed up time to market and make better,
safer products at a lower cost.
Our wide range of simulation capabilities includes: static stress with linear and nonlinear material models;
Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) for nonlinear, multi-body dynamics with large-scale motion, large deformation and large strain with body-to-body contact;
linear dynamics; fatigue; CFD including steady-state and transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow and mass transfer;
electrostatics; full multiphysics; and piping.
These analysis capabilities are all available within FEMPRO, an easy-to-use single user interface that
provides direct data exchange and full associativity with virtually
all CAD solid modelers
and includes sketching, modeling and meshing tools.
Technology
ALGOR products are based on the finite element method. Some unique factors include:
- internationalized language support allowing easy selection of the language of choice, including Chinese (simplified),
English, French, German, Italian and Spanish
- cost-effective solutions for networked license sharing; enterprise-wide and remote-use licensing; and single, node-locked licensing
- direct data exchange and full associativity with popular CAD solid modelers through a single user interface available for all analysis types
- tools for 2- and 3-D sketching, modeling and structured meshing
- an automatic, hex-dominant hybrid meshing tool to produce higher-quality elements on the first pass and more accurate results
- automatic, geometry-based mesh refinement along with virtual imprinting for calculating intersecting surfaces using CAD data
- easily set up MES for combining large-scale motion and stress analysis in a single process, which simulates real-world conditions more accurately
- multiphysics capabilities such as electrostatic-structural, thermal-structural, fluid-thermal and fluid-thermal-structural
- porous media flow analysis for simulating fluid flow through media such as ground rock, filters and catalyst beds
- fracture analysis for calculating J-integral results (strain energy release rate) and stress intensifications at cracks
- specialized FEM piping and pressure vessel system design and analysis tools to verify compliance with international codes
- full compatibility with industry-standard NASTRAN input and output files so that NASTRAN and/or FEMAP®* users can benefit
from our value-added capabilities including an easy-to-use single user interface, full CAD/CAE associativity with popular
CAD solid modelers, automatic brick and tetrahedral solid meshing and complementary analysis tools such as fluid flow and
MES for combined motion and stress analysis
- open design environment for engineering data sharing and expansion of technology partnerships
Customers
Customers range from divisions of Fortune 500 companies to individual consulting engineers. A representative sample of
recent real-world applications of ALGOR software include:
- GM Powertrain—a division of General Motors Corporation,
the largest automotive manufacturer in the world—diagnosed the operation of an automotive electrical conductor.
- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company verified standard wheel
design for "run-flat" tires.
- Hewlett-Packard Company used MES to analyze behavior of a magnetic
recording tape as it wound through an HP Ultrium tape drive.
- Solar Power Industries, Inc. used multiphysics simulations
to optimize a directional solidification furnace that casts silicon ingots, which are used to manufacture photovoltaic solar cells.
- Stern Pinball, Inc., the only manufacturer of coin-operated pinball machines in the world,
used MES to analyze the action of a pinball striking a plastic drop-target assembly for a new pinball machine.
More than 20,000 customers in 95 countries have used ALGOR software and services to design products such as jet engines,
Broadway set designs, heat exchangers, circuit boards, large telescopes, plant piping systems, MEMS and biomechanical
devices.
